[left][/left]Hasidism: New and Unusual Perspectives
[left][/left]Hasidism is a dynamic and vital part of the contemporary Jewish world which continues to fascinate outsiders both positively and negatively. Eight to twelve participants are sought for a seminar highlighting innovative approaches to the study of Hasidism and topics which have previously been neglected. Topics can come from any historical period and may include related developments such as neo-Hasidism or former Hasidim. Any disciplinary approach is welcome including historical, literary, sociological and theological perspectives. We are particularly interested in the application of recent trends in scholarship (e.g. History of Emotions) to Hasidic topics. If accepted, this will be a seminar, meeting twice during the conference for intensive discussion of papers which participants will submit ahead of time for everyone to read in advance. If interested, please contact the organizer, Justin Jaron Lewis; a full paper proposal is not necessary at this stage
