Heartbreaking. All of Brooklyn, Jewish and not, is devastated that we lost such a sweet young family in such a terrible way -- our hearts are shattered for you. I hope this lovely letter gives the survivors a little bit of comfort. May they have some peace someday.

This story has made me heartsick for the young couple, their parents and the grandchild that might have been. Our first grandchild was born in Brooklyn on Jan 18 to our son and wife married last year - they took a cab to NY Methodist hospital where we were so blessed to see their newborn son. The picture is so clear to me and the pain for the ones lost so deep. May the parents of the couple find some peace in the wonderful, gentle adults their children became. My deepest sympathies to the family.

Beautiful and sad.
In Jewish tradition the righteous are called "living" even after death. One reason is because their good deeds and positive influence on the world lives on.
As a Yiddish speaker I see that the photo only shows the second page of the letter.

Contrast this with the cowardly actions of the driver who hit them. Couldn't be a bigger difference in maturity and respectability. And Nachum was 21, while that lowlife is 44. Twice his age and a hundredth the man.

To have a son write a letter so moving, so humble, and so beautiful to his parents is a testament to the kind of people his parents are, and to the purity and goodness of the son they raised.
My deepest condolences to Nathan Glauber's family and to his wife's family at this time of mourning and grief. What an immense loss they have suffered. I pray they will be comforted and can find solace and peace.

A beautiful letter written by a thoughtful man. It is everything we would hope to say to our parents, but we often don't possess the maturity or insight to express as eloquently. A terrible loss for the world. Condolences to his extended family and community.

This is very emotional and everything, but Yeshivas actually cripple their kids by depriving them of an education in English, math, science, history, geography, etc. Teaching Jewish education and values alone is not enough; not according to the law and not according to Conlon sense.

It is really disheartening that a fellow could make some critical, anti-Jewish education statement at a time like this. It is unrelated to the content of the beautiful letter that the now deceased young man wrote.
You have a bone to pick about religious education? Choose a time and place where it is appropriate to make your poisonous statements. From your name and location you are likely a product of a yeshiva education. Evidently they deprived you of learning the sensitivity one needs to get along in the world.
I'll take a caring, compassionate person over one who can calculate vectors and knows the difference between igneous and metamorphic rocks (for example) any day. Yeshivas may not provide the secular education you think they should but they did help raise a young groom who could express his appreciation in a sophisticated way.

I really think you miss the point, Naftuli. Whether educated at a Yeshiva or not, this son gave a beautiful gift to his parents in writing this letter. Not many 21 year-olds would understand the nachus it would give his parents. Any parent would treasure this and his untimely death makes it more precious.

While your point might be valid, generally speaking, that is neither here nor there and has no relevance to this article or letter. I think it wise too not to utter broad categorical statements that can be misleading. A good many number of yeshivoth do in fact teach general studies. I assume you meant Hassidic yeshivoth. Still, this is not the forum to take issue with the Hassidic world's cultural and educational practices.

I really think you miss the point, Naftuli. Whether educated at a Yeshiva or not, this son gave a beautiful gift to his parents in writing this letter. Not many 21 year-olds would understand the nachus it would give his parents. Any parent would treasure this and his untimely death makes it more precious.

If there was ever a more inappropriate and disturbingly ill-placed comment left on this site, I haven't seen it. Your inability to see the beauty in something where it is so blindingly apparent makes me sad for you.

The touching letter hit-and-run Jewish groom wrote to his parents on his wedding day thanking them and asking them to pray for him and his wife
A letter believed to be written by the young Jewish man who was killed along with his wife and child in a hit-and-run this week has been released, in which he thanks his mother and father for all they had done for him on the day he was to marry his bride.
The letter, written in Yiddish, is from the young groom on his wedding day, thanking his parents for never sparing time or money if he needed anything and for sending him to yeshiva 'to learn your values, religious and worldly, until I reached to this current lucky moment'.
He also asked them to forgive any pain he may have caused them and said: 'I feel a sting in my heart that I’m already leaving your warm home.'
The letter was being sent around Hasidim yesterday and though the family said they were too grief-stricken to confirm the letter's authenticity, friends told the New York Times it was his writing.
נאכדעם האבן זיי דער גאנצער בריוו און א באקס ווארט ביי ווארט.
