First of all, I know I have many Muslim friends and followers who will wholeheartedly disagree with what I’ll write.
However, I think we live in an age (2017 already!) where we can share opinions without engaging in unnecessary personal strife.

Last week the UN Security Council passed a resolution condemning Israel for building in Judea and Samaria- the so-called “occupied territories” and other crimes.
In contrast to previous USA policy President Obama did not use his veto power to stop the resolution, and the bill passed.
Secretary John Kerry gave a speech defending the (almost) unprecedented and totally unexpected inaction as he put it:

“They [Israel] fail to recognize that this friend, the United States, that has done more to support Israel than any other country… and we cannot properly defend and protect Israel — if we allow a viable two state solution to be destroyed before our eyes. And that’s the bottom line: the vote in the UN was about preserving the two state solution.”

As a Jew and resident of Israel,
I think this statement in particular and the speech in general were stupid, dishonest, and hypocritical.
First of all, no one in Israel [besides for a few lunatics, and Netanyahu is not one of them] doubts that USA is Israel’s closest and almost only friend in the UN and globally.

Secondly, he blamed Israel and the settlements for being the obstacle to peace and “suicidal,” while failing to acknowledge that Israel proceeding with the two-state solution as it is now is also committing suicide.
Quite literally. For, as Kerry himself stated, Fatah endorsed terrorism and celebrated terrorists, has an alliance with Hamas and indoctrinates children to commit violence against Israel.
Therefore, handing over the entire West Bank to unpredictable hands is extremely dangerous.
If building settlements in the West Bank is harmful for Israel, you better believe that a repeat of the Gaza missile crisis is harmful.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, the UN vote had nothing to do with “preserving the two-state solution.”
The Security Council is comprised of some of the greatest Human Rights violators in the world.
Putin [aka Russia] illegally invaded Ukraine and as I’m sure my Muslim friends will remember the horrendous murder campaign he led in Chechnya.
He’s infamous for choking basic freedoms such as freedom of speech and assassinating his opponents. China and Venezuela don’t have much of a better record than Russia

The UN has a history of condemning Israel to a staggering and disproportionate extent (see image) and virtually,
relatively ignoring the much more serious crimes committed against humanity.
I challenge every fair minded person to ask themselves, if you can make a list of governments that are a threat to the betterment of their peoples where on the list would Israel be?
Can you agree with me that Russia, China, Cuba, Sudan, Syria, North Korea and Nigeria are way, way higher on that list?
I understand that it does not condone what you think is unfair in Israel’s behavior, but it clearly illustrates why the UN is an organization that is not concerned about morality and the betterment of the world.

Moreover, recently UNESCO passed a resolution regarding Jerusalem, entirely ignoring the historical Jewish ties to Temple Mount and Jerusalem.
That is the UN the Israelis know.
Perhaps you can now understand why to Israelis a resolution from the UN is not only meaningless, it is counterproductive.
For the UN is the enemy of the Jewish State, and alliance with an organization comprised of sworn enemies and cruel hypocrites won’t bring Israel to the table, it will only distance the process of peace.

I join the Palestinians in their vision of peace and independence, but running to the UN won’t help, and neither will suicide bombings.
Both of these activities cause Israeli leaders [in reflection of the Israeli public] to withdraw and make the lives of the Palestinians even harder.
When there’s a bus bombing or a stabbing, you have to be foolish to think that Israel will remove checkpoints.
When you side with an unfair UN, you have to be foolish to think that Israel will dismantle cities. That’s why Obama is wrong.
