So someone starts a thread on my name and you all take me to task. I was addressing a sexist comments in the other thread, not this question. But I thought it was ironic that you guys opened a separate thread for me within the context of this question so pointed out how vast the cultural separation between spouses in our community is.

To address the question, I think what was adjective is why are there more divorces today than in the past. The bigger question I think is, are our married couples happy? What are the reasons and if it's so, ate more getting out. In my humble opinion, most couples are probably not so miserable since the expectations from spouses are very low. However, if one spouse starts having גרעסערע השגות, that will cause problems.

Now the idea of feminism was brought up in the Yiddish thread. I do believe that feminism raised women's (and probably men's ) expectations of a relationship, and feminism also brought about a phenomena of more financial independent women. And because of וואס גויאישט אידישט זיך, it has definitely had an effect. Women have more options if they're not reliant on a spouse for income.

If it's a good thing or bad is another question entirely. If you think the sanctity of marriage is more important than human happiness and fulfillment, then you'd view this as destruction.
