I have a few questions that I would like to get your response on,

As I can see you deeply care about the taxpayers money in all of Rockland and I truly admire that, but just wondering why that passion does not carry over to the taxpayers in the East Ramapo School District?

Do you believe in the judiciary system in the United States, If you do how come you have called the aid in question A multi million dollar scam after a judge ruled on this issue, and I quote

As one of the largest community's in Rockland we love to meet our politicians and political representatives from time to time, we usually get that opportunity at bigger events that our community often hosts, where our esteemed elected officials pay short visits to discuss issues that matter to us, I'm just curious when we will get the chance to meet you, I was sure at first that you are way too busy getting settled in your new position, but I see that you made time to visit many events all over the county, It's unclear to me why the Hasidic community does not get the chance to meet you?

Last but not least I have bumped into some comments on your Facebook page that is deeply concerning to me and to my community, I would like to know if you care to respond to those?

In a Facebook exchange where I politely pleaded with Mr. Day in a very respectful manner to condemn and speak out against the beyond disgusting anti-semitic attacks on Jews posted on his own Facebook page in response to his post about appealing the ruling of a judge against the county's position. (Something that I may disagree, but that I did not take issue with at all).

The only issue that I did take with Mr. Days post was his suggestion that Jews somehow take away $$$ from and I quote "colored people", something that is sure to invite racial tension between the Jewish and African american communities.

Furthermore, as a Jew whos grandmother was gassed by the Natzis in ww2 I do take issue with posts like those, Posts that were posted on Mr. Day's page in support of his position

Shockingly to me all Mr. Day took issue with was my post which never ever suggested that those Hatful posts reflects Mr. Days own opinion, to the contrary if you look at yesterday's post I very clearly point out that I do not believe that they do.

[left]Day's Facebook post stirs anger among Orthodox community

Rockland County Executive Ed Day's criticism of child-care subsidies for religious students set off an angry reaction among Orthodox Jews, including accusations of anti-Semitism against some Day supporters.

Day stated on his personal Facebook page that he told the Social Services Department to challenge an "absurd decision by an administrative judge" that allows students to get the subsidies while studying at a learning center in the Ramapo village of Kaser.

"This is off the books income at best and this abuse keeps 381 families with an estimated 700 children" — mostly in communities of color — from getting child care, Day's post read. "This is a multimillion dollar scam as many of the families — including the three that challenged losing child care subsidy — also receive Medicaid, Food Stamps and heating allowances."

Day's April 6 comments followed a Journal News article about a judge's ruling that students paid to answer questions and do research while studying religious texts are eligible for child care payments. Day said he told the Department of Social Services, which knocked 118 families off the child care rolls, to appeal that decision, as another 22 families are eligible for payments.

The Facebook entry drew responses from posters who thanked the county executive for being a watchdog and calling the child-care issue a scam, the Hasidic community corrupt and raising concerns about the costs of social services to the taxpayer. Some of them called religious Jews an "infestation" and "parasites."

The Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council responded by accusing Day of pitting non-white residents against the religious Jewish community. The council was founded by Yossi Gestetner, a spokesman for the religious community.

"While it is fully within the rights of the County to appeal a judicial ruling, it's unbecoming for the County's top office holder to place a Facebook post that lobs accusations against members of a minority community; a post which suggests that Orthodox Jews are the reason why people in 'communities of color' do not have access to Government assistance," the council's statement read.

"The negative consequences of this writing is vividly seen in the troubling comments posted at the bottom of the Facebook post," the statement said. "An elected official of this stature should use his position to bring communities together instead of behaving in ways which drives them further apart."

The controversy was reminiscent of Day's election campaign in which the political influence of Ramapo's ultra-Orthodox Jewish voting bloc became an issue. Many Day supporters asserted that the religious community gets more than its share of social services and political favoritism.

Day and some of his supporters raised concerns that the bloc vote would go to Democrat David Fried and Day was being wrongly branded as anti-Semitic. Religious leaders countered that the rhetoric against the community had crossed the line.

During his campaign Day promised to clean up welfare fraud and advocate against large-scale projects like the proposed nearly 500-home Patrick Farm development by Hasidic builders in Ramapo and a poultry processing plant in New Square.

Day's spokesman Scott Salotto said Tuesday that the county executive declined to comment on the Facebook comment.

Benny Polatseck, a Spring Valley business owner and a Hasidic Jew, was critical of Day for allowing the hateful posts.

"It's alarming to me and to my community that open anti-Semites find shelter in Mr. Day's Facebook post, and not only to they not get deleted by Day, but he refuses to outright condemn it," Polatseck told The Journal News.[/left]
